Up In the Air

That's the way I feel about this summer. There's a great deal that's still "up in the air", as in "undecided". And yet what is locked in, or even on the list of possibilities, has me floating.

Not my highest priority, but none-the-less already "fer sure", are productive results from our High Vista Community Garden, 2012. We've eaten our first green pepper and have these other veggies showing great progress. Everyone keeps praising our tomatoes as the best "on the farm". I have my friend and master gardener, Barbara Lipper, to thank for starting most of them in her New York greenhouse early in the Spring.

Now, for the really good stuff. This weekend I'll literally be up in the air, flying to New York for a jam packed visit with Mom and Brother Josh. "The girls" have shopping, the movies, the senior center and lunch with extended family on our "wish list." Hope the weather and our energy cooperate.

Later in the summer we'll be flitting here and there - Atlanta, GA, to visit with long time friends and family and a glorious week sharing a house in East Hampton, NY, with our children and grandchildren who live in New Jersey. I still recall the fun and warmth of sharing a rental with them near Pensacola, FL, when Lily (now 16) was a newborn little bean and her brother Max Robins (now a chef at Per Se Restaurant, NYC) was under five feet tall and attached to his boogie-board. We won't be reliving old times; we'll be creating new memories. The end of August, we may have the opportunity to combine a couple of days with my cousins on Cape Cod with a drop in on our grandson, Max Willen, as he moves back into Boston for his sophomore year at BU. The details on these jaunts are not fully, but almost, nailed down.

Finally, we're keeping our fingers and toes crossed, awaiting good news about the possible relocation of other family members who now live far, far away and may soon reside within less than a day's driving distance. Hooray for the vision of hugs replacing Skype.

In between trips we're looking forward to our regular summer season in Asheville: parties with friends, nights on the town, the ever-spectacular Terpsicorps Theater of the Dance, "Proof" at Flat Rock Playhouse, Shindig on the Green in Asheville, Music on Main in Hendersonville, the Rockin' RiverFest on the French Broad, etc. - and the ever welcome unexpected guest booking a sleep over at the Willen "B&B".
